    Luma and the Little Cloud

Luma the unicorn lived beside a meadow. Her mane was pale purple. Her favorite food was crunchy apple slices.

One evening, a little cloud floated down beside her fence. It was no bigger than a pillow.

"I cannot find a place to rest," said the cloud. "The other clouds are still moving."

Luma looked up. Long white clouds sailed slowly across the sky.

"You can rest with me for a while," she said.

She led the cloud to an apple tree. The cloud tried to sit among the leaves, but the branches tickled.

It gave a tiny giggle. A few drops landed on Luma's nose.

    "Not quite right," said Luma.

They tried the low hill. The grass was soft, but a playful breeze kept nudging the cloud along.

"Not quite right," said the cloud.

Luma did not hurry. She took a bite of apple and thought. Then she noticed the pond. Its water was smooth. Tall reeds stood around it like a quiet green fence.

    "Shall we try here?"

The cloud floated just above the water. In the pond, it saw a small white shape looking back.

    "Another little cloud!" it said.

"Your reflection," Luma explained. "The water is showing you yourself."

The cloud became very still. The reeds kept the breeze away. A frog sat nearby without making a sound.

"This feels right," the cloud whispered.

Luma lay down on the grassy bank. She tucked her feet beneath her. For a while, neither friend needed to speak.

When the sky turned lavender, the little cloud rose gently.

"I feel ready to join my family now. Thank you for waiting with me."

Luma watched it float toward the evening clouds. Then she walked home beneath the apple trees.

In her snug stable, she rested her head on clean straw. The pond was quiet. The meadow was quiet. Her purple mane spread softly over her pillow, and sleep came as gently as a cloud.
